Welcome to my pawn shop. Here you can find a variety of items that may suit your interest. Perhaps there is something you need? Well I am always open for negotiations. I also own this town as well, however, here is where you will most likely find me unless I am out attending to other matters. Now, is there anything I can assist you with? I do love making deals.

Emma had just come into town last night. Her 'son' Henry had convinced her to stay a week. She knew that Henry was indeed her son; however it was a shock seeing that it was a closed adoption so he should not have been able to find her. His adopted mother Regina had divulged that he had been surfing the internet and found her through a website. Of course he did. But why would he have been so determined to find her was the question. There was nothing exceptional about Emma. She'd given him up to give him a better life. And by the looks of it, he had one here in Storybrooke, Maine. Shaking her head, her eyes furrowed. Who had ever heard of Storybrooke? It sounded almost made up. If the kid ever heard her say that aloud, he'd probably attribute it to being a curse or something. Last night she had found a place to stay at Granny's Bed and Breakfast. She was staying in room four. She'd met Mr. Gold the previous night and had been informed by Granny and her granddaughter Ruby that he owned the entire town. Now she wanted to take a look around town to see what exactly Henry was talking about. He seemed to really believe that there was a curse in this town and the book he carried around was like his bible. He never let it out of his sight. This morning she had made her way to Granny's diner. Convenient really. The same woman who ran the B&B ran the diner. Sitting at a table, Emma felt exposed a lot of people were staring at her. From what she understood was that no one ever visited the town and no one ever left. It was as though there was no outside world beyond the town limits. Suddenly a girl by the name of Ruby (if she remembered correctly) brought her a hot chocolate with cinnamon on it. "Thanks, that's just the way.." the blond looked up unsure as to how Ruby would know that's how she liked her hot chocolate. "How did you know this is what I like?" Ruby told her it just seemed that was what she would like so she brought it over. After breakfast, Emma stepped outside and began to stroll around town to take everything in. It was then she noticed Mr. Gold's shop. This was on her agenda today. She wanted to find out more about this Mr. Gold. How could one man own the entire town? Slowly she pushed the door of his shop open and peeked her head in. Her blond hair fell into her face. Perhaps it was her curious nature that was getting the best of her. "Hello? is anyone here?" Rolling her eyes thinking to herself. Of course there is. The door is open.

Mr. Gold had been busy most of the day attending other matters from those he'd frequent on a daily basis not to mention the moments he spent reminiscing on the past. Seizing the moment to be alone he knew that unless someone called for his attention as most usually did he would only have a brief period to fidget with some items that laid broken and had remained broken for quite sometime.
He sat down behind a small workshop table and slid open a drawer that connected to the table. Inside, a pocket watch laid atop a pile of broken pieces of random objects that were likely used as parts, Mr. Gold removed the watch from within the drawer and carefully displayed it before him on the table below. "Well I certainly hope our little furry friend wont be late to his next meeting" Gold whispered to himself all the while faintly chuckling.
As he took out a tiny screw driver which were to be used to open the pocket watch, his eyes drifted up to the doorway that lead to the main shop then seconds later a faint ringing of a bell echoed from within the main shop area. He also heard the sound of footsteps that drew closer toward the counter and with each step took, the boards beneath the mysterious person's feet would creak from the weight applied.
A soft smirk played over the man's lips when he heard the voice of a woman calling out for assistance. "Perhaps you should read the sign that says open" He stated to himself in regards to her asking if anyone was around. Mr. Gold finally stood to his feet and walked toward the dooryway that lead into the shop, he pushed back a curtain only to notice a woman curiously looking around at all of his items that he had on display.
"Ah, Miss Swan, how can I be of service?" Gold stepped up to the counter and laid down the small screw driver which he had forgotten to leave in the back and greeted the young lady with a smile.

Movement in the back of the shop told her that someone was indeed here. Like she had said inwardly, the door wouldn't have been open if there weren't. If he owned the town, how well did he get along with Mayor Mills? It seemed that not many people really cared for her when they saw her. What bothered her more was that the Mayor seemed to have some sort of vendetta against Emma. Was it due to the fact that she'd brought Henry back? Oh come on. Emma did not plan on getting involved in the kid's life. That was why she gave him up in the first place. To give him a better life. To tell the truth, it seemed like he had the perfect life. That thought caused her to pause. It was like everyone in Storybrooke had the perfect life. Yet they didn't seem to notice or care.
Everyone but Gold and the Mayor. Well it was obvious who Emma was not going to approach on the matter. The sheriff was most likely in Mayor Mill's pocket. But she'd gotten the air from Gold that if she asked him a question she may just get some information from him. "Mr. Gold, everyone here seems to be afraid of you. Moreso than the Mayor." Her body shifted as she leaned against and forward on the counter. Her soon to be well known red jacket was not zipped up completely. One could hear the leather shifting together and making that noise that leather does when it rubs against itself. This stance told the shop owner that she was behaving more like the bailbonds person she was. It was as though she were interrogating him, therefore letting him see that she was was not only curious but stubborn and was not going to leave the shop without answers to her questions. "What is it that you have over everyone here?" Scratching her nose as though she were attempting to stall just a little bit, she smiled slightly. "What do you know about Mayor Mills?"

It took little effort to discover that her visit to the shop would be less than formal based on the expression displayed over her facial features. Gold had a knack for reading people and often times his assumptions proved to be correct and the questions asked solidified what he had assumed, not to mention the rumors he had heard about the difference Emma and Regina felt between one another during their encounters. However, what did manage to surprise him was her question about the intimidation people within Storybrooke felt whenever a simple mention of his name was made.
“Whatever gave you the idea that people feared me Miss Swan? I’m simply a business man and as you can tell by my shop, a mere pawnbroker” He pointed out to all of the items displayed within the shop and smirked.
“I hold nothing but fairness over anyone. They come to me for favors and in return I simply ask for a small price. I believe that is how business is done isn’t it Miss Swan? I believe your profession was quite similar right? You did favors for those whom paid you correct?” He turned and walked out from behind the counter with the assistance of his cane. It was rather amusing knowing that Regina had another foe at her doorstep, an enemy he felt could defeat her, not that he had any trouble but the things he knew about Emma gave him confidence in what he had in store for himself in the future.
“As for your question about Regina…” He said as he stepped passed Emma toward the shops exit. “…I know quite a bit about our lovely Mayor but the only thing you need to know is that she will stop at nothing to make sure you don’t take that boy away from her.” He stopped at the door then turned his head to the side so that Emma was in view out of the corner of his eyes. “She feels threatened by you Miss Swan, as I’m sure you probably already noticed”

There was something about him. It was almost as if he had an air of superiority about him. At least one that he believed he had. The others seemed to feel it as well. Not Emma. No one was going to put themselves above her in the food chain. It wasn't in her to let anyone walk all over her. Especially with her job description. It was her job to find out everything about the person, locate them, study them completely, apprehend them and collect the bounty. It's what brought home the bacon. This time it brought home Henry. Perhaps he was more like her than she knew.
Standing up straight, she smirked, raised an eyebrow at his question. Did he honestly think that she would believe that people didn't fear him? "Come on, Gold. You saw it in Granny's Bed and Breakfast last night when she handed over the rent. She was terrified of you. So what is it that you hold over the people of this town? I mean besides the fact that I've heard that you own the entire town." Which meant... "So you'll evict them out of their homes and businesses if they don't pay the rent on time. Those aren't favors, Gold. That's extortion. I am sure that your price isn't that small. From what I can see by the looks everyone gives you." Yes, her profession was quite similar in a manner of speaking. "It depends on how you look at it. I offer up the money to get the people out of jail. When they jump bail, they are jumping bail on my money." Her chin fell to her chest as her eyes rose. "You on the other hand, could give a week for them to make up for the lateness of a payment. Though I'm sure you don't."
He spoke of the Mayor as he walked towards the door limping with a cane. "I'm not here for Henry. He found me. I told her I'm not here as a threat. I came here to drop him off. I went to leave, I saw a wolf and I crashed my car." Raising her hand in frustration. "So I don't know what she has against me or why she feels threatened for." Though Henry had asked her to stay a week. So Emma had chosen to stay for his sake. "I won't be here long and she had nothing to worry about from me." His voice was steady yet so very certain. "Why is she so afraid of me?" Stopping short of the door, Emma looked at him. "And why are you in such a rush to get rid of me, Mr. Gold?"

The determination she showed to discover the truth and the inability to give up gave Gold a sense of admiration as many in fact did not carry the confidence she displayed to stand before him and speak their mind and he often enjoyed carrying that kind of power and while others would likely suffer some sort of consequence for such disobedience he knew there was something special about Emma, a quality he was not about to share with her. Gold shifted his foot right and turned to completely face this confrontational woman and with the assistance of his cane he took a few steps forward to close some space in between the two.
“I’m not so sure that I understand you correctly, you assume Granny was fearful of me?” He chuckled softly and shook his head “I assure you that is at all not the case. Would you like to know what I seen? I seen a woman who was due on her rent and she paid in full. Now, if there was any nervous behavior it was likely because she feared she may not have had enough money to cover her rent.” He took a couple of more steps forward while smiling “Let me ask you this Miss Swan, isn’t it normal for one to feel a bit antsy when having to hand over cash to another person when a debt is owed? That’s merely all it was, a case of having to cover a debt”
Again Gold laughed when she explained her reasoning for the damage to her car “Yes of course, I heard the story about the wolf. Quite the amusing tale Miss Swan and who am I to say you did not see one but I promise, there are no wolves in Storybrooke.” Gold paused briefly and lifted his cane up to position it beneath his arm, he then removed a pair of leather gloves from within the right pocket of the jacket he wore that matched the rest of his suit. “Let me explain something about Regina, she fears what I already know. Telling her you want nothing to do with the boy is like telling me you want nothing to do with young Henry” He slid his hands within the gloves then placed his cane back down against the floor so that the weight of his body could rest onto the stick.
“You keep trying to fool yourself into believing that it’s the truth but I too have a special gift. They say that eyes are the mirror to the soul and I can often read what they’re feeling on the inside. Besides Miss Swan, why else would you have promised to remain in Storybrooke a bit longer? As I said, Regina will stop at nothing to get what she wants and she can be quite the powerful contender.” Gold again turns to face the door “Now if you will excuse me, I have more debts to collect upon. Though you are welcome to join me…….As long as you try not to interfere.” He added and walked back toward the door.

You think I'm something I'm not I'm not the Savior The way he turned on his foot using the cane alone could be construded as intimidating. "You know what you do to intimidate people, Mr. Gold and yet you attempt to deny it. It's because they don't want to see it. Living in denial for some is easier than seeing the truth. It's a sad day to realize when one is living in denial rather than seeing the world for what it really is. Unlike you and I, everyone in this town have their blinders on." He had taken a few steps towards her, yet Emma dared to stay put right where she was. "That is why they fear you. They don't see you for who and what you really are. Nor do they see themselves for what they have inside." Of course he knew Emma meant that they all had courage. They just never used it.
"I know Granny was fearful of you. She was not worried about not making her rent. She had it all in hand when you walked in the door. It was when she handed it over. The way her voice shook when she told you it was all there. And your response of you were sure that it was. It was not a.." Emma was attempting to think of the right word while her body shifted from one leg to the other. "Comment of reassurance. It was more of a demand that you knew it would be or she'd be out on the street." Her head had tilted ever so slightly and a brow arched. "Oh you know that look, I'm sure, Mr. Gold. In my line of work I've seen it many times."
The additional steps that he took towards her caused a smile on her face and the bailbond's person took one step towards Mr. Gold to prove a point. That she was indeed not scared of him. Nor would she ever be. Was he right though when it came to the kid? Did she want to have something to do with him? "Listen Gold, I came here to drop him off. My car is in the shop. I made a promise to Henry that I'd stay a week. So I am." So Regina feared that she was here for Henry? "Why the Hell does she fear that I'm here for him?" Her hands went into the air. "He found me. I gave him up for a reason. I couldn't raise him. He was better off with someone who could give him a better life." Taking in a deep breath, her eyes opened. "Why am I telling you this? But no, I am not living in denial when it comes to Henry."
He gave her the opportunity to walk around town with him. She could observe him and learn her way around the town. An interesting offer. "You know what, I will take you up on that offer. And when we leave one place, I'll let you know what that person is feeling about you and you'll know for sure. Deal?"[/div] |

The confidence she bestowed behind the belief that people were fearful of him was admired, though not openly as he wanted to prove a point. A point that he felt would likely bring her ego down a few notches. He was aware that most were intimidated just by name speak alone but figuring out a way to reveal otherwise was his goal not to mention the ability to rub this in Emma's face would bring great pleasure to the man with a very 'dark' past. As he locked eyes with her he could sense she wasn't intimidated by him, as expected considering her past, who she was and never growing up in Storybrooke.
Perhaps if he approached each individual he had to visit with a sense of kindness would build trust with them and sway Emma into thinking her judgement was wrong and merely a false first impression, It was worth the attempt and if anyone did reveal any nervous emotion that she could pick up on? Well raising their rent would suffice.
"I'm sure you will be pleasantly surprised Miss Swan at how wrong you were to judge me so quickly." Mr. Gold said, with a smile of confidence.
He placed his hand on the door's knob and twisted it to the right but before he decided to pull the door open, he paused and turned his head to the side so that he could capture Emma's image from the corner of his eyes. "Allow me the chance to add a little tid bit to our new found agreement; If I can manage to prove your assumptions wrong, prove that I'm not this 'bad guy' that you've so harshly labeled me, I would like an apology and a sincere one at that. Do we have a deal?" He pulled the door open but stepped to the side so that Emma could exit the building first. Gold hoped he could pull off his plan but knew that with no magic, accomplishing such an act would likely prove to be a far greater challenge than he hoped but it was worth the risk.

He didn't know what Granny and Ruby had said or the way she said it when he had left the Bed and Breakfast. It was the best words she could come up for it. Just the name 'Mr. Gold' caused them to shiver. So there was no way she would ever believe that he could convince her otherwise. But it would be amusing to see him try. A small laugh emanated from her as he spoke to her about how he would pleasantly surprise her if he were allowed to show her around town to prove her wrong. This was going to be fun to say the least. Even though she had just met Gold, Emma had a way to tell when people were lying. As she'd told Henry, it was a super power. Granted it wasn't a super power, but it was a great instinct. How she knew, she didn't know, but Emma was right almost 100% of the time. And Gold was lying. Or just trying to put her off. Which in truth was the same thing. Lying by omission was the same as lying. "I may judge quickly Mr. Gold, but I must warn you now that I'm generally right almost 100% of the time. So, don't get your hopes up." As he opened up the door for her, she laughed as he made his deal and asked her whether or not she would accept his terms. "I will gladly offer you an apology." A sincere one? Hmm, that might prove to be.. "And a sincere one at that, Gold. You have a deal." When he stepped back to allow her to pass first, she gave him a skeptical look. "Chivalry still exists? I'm shocked." Emma passed through the door and waited for Gold to step outside and lock the shop up.

The deal had been struck, there was no way to back out now and Gold had just minutes to convince the first individual he was headed out to see that he was not one to be feared, if only one person could convince Miss Swan, Gold knew, or he assumed that he would win the little wager that they had negotiated. There was no way he would allow Emma to prove him wrong. Gold was bound and determined to obtain the apology she agreed to. "There's a lot you dont know about me Miss Swan" He said with a smile, reacting to her snarky comment when he held the door for him. "I'm more gentleman than you might think" Gold added as he followed her outside and closed the door behind him. He grabbed the keys and locked the door then placed the keys back into his pocket. A deep nervous sigh passed through his lips when he glanced down the street toward the first location which was Granny's diner, yes Granny's the very woman whom Emma had claimed spoke ill of him after he left, that little tid bit of information certainly did not set well with him but he knew if he were going to win the bet he would have to be on his best behavior. Gold placed his left hand on the small of her back and pointed down the side walk with his other hand, another smile formed across his lips "Shall we?" He asked as ideas of how his little scam could be pulled off flooded through his mind. Emma had proven just how crafty she was in the short time she had been in Storybrooke and much like someone else he had known in his past, it would have to take something big to convince his new found travel partner. So he actually wanted to make the deal to prove to her that she would see him in a different light. That the first person they encountered did not fear him. This was going to be good. An apology was nothing to give. Though when it came to this man, she honestly didn't want to give one, but she would if there were one person in town that didn't see him as such. So she was game. "There's a lot I don't know about everyone in this town, but being that I'm observant, Mr. Gold, also means that I picked out that Granny was petrified of you. As was her granddaughter, Ruby." Granted that didn't take a fool to notice. "Where I come from, Mr. Gold, not many men are gentlemanly anymore. That went out in the 60's or it only exists in fairy tales. And we all know those are just stories." Her comment about the fairy tales was firm and unwavering. When he placed his hand in the small of her back, she jumped slightly and held her arm up. "I have a thing about personal space. Unless I'm hunting someone down, I have to trust the person I am close to." Which told him without words that she didn't trust him. Waving her arm forward in a gesture, she nodded her head forward slightly. "Lead the way." She was anxious to find out how this would turn out. Mr. Gold
