Stealing a glance at her watch confirmed that her day was finally over. Shrugging out of the white lab coat that acted as her work attire, she breathed a sigh of relief and headed to the front of the office. The day had been slow with most of her appointments being cancelled due to the residents choosing to stay in from the bitter cold. She didn’t blame them, though, it was best to stay when it was this cold out. Flipping the sign from open to closed and locked the door before she fought her way into her winter coat and stepped out into the brisk Maine air.
The walk from the Storybrooke Veterinarian Clinic to Granny’s Diner was a bit of a walk, but it gave her time to lose herself in her thoughts. Since the curse had been broken and magic restored to Storybrooke her thoughts often strayed to her previous life in Fairytale Land and her new life in this strange new world.
Ellie’s job perfectly suited her and she couldn’t be happier spending her days in the company of animals. Animals were easy, especially in comparison to their human counterparts. They were naturally good and there was never a chance for them to betray or hurt, their only goals were to please and love, but she still found herself lonely. In that fact this place was much like her old home, living in the depths of the forest with only the animals for company. She just wished that there was someone around here that she could connect to, to be able to talk to. It was a lonely life.
Ellie found herself standing in front of Granny’s Diner, her feet automatically leading her whilst her mind wandered aimlessly. A soft smile tweaked her lips, the place never failed to feel homey and make her feel a little bit better about the loneliness that she felt in this place. A few small looks were aimed her way as she moved towards the back corner that she usually occupied when she came. Finding it empty she shed her snow-flecked coat and sat down, a small sigh escaping her mouth as she sagged into the seat.

Isolation had always been a big part of Elsa's life. From being forcefully isolated as a child to her self-isolation as a young adult in Storybrooke. Elsa had spent another day sprawled out her bed in baggy sweats and a tanktop reading various comics. After several hours, her stomach began to rumble, and much to her irritation she was in need of sustenance. She dressed up in regular, outside-home clothing consisting of jeans and a simple tee-shirt with a large, hollowed-out Bat symbol. She quickly peered out the window of her second story bedroom to get some idea of the weather -- a pointless habit as only heat really effected her anymore. She snatched up her hoodie and pulled it on. Being all set she grabbed her wallet, stuffed it into her jeans along with her cellphone then headed out. Once outside her room the darkness of the house gave away the impression that either she was alone or everyone was asleep, either way, she did not pay much attention to it.
Since the curse had broken, life had been even more dull than usual. She was still forced to see Doctor Hopper, and she was unable to locate her sister whom she knew had been in Storybrooke during the curse. That fact alone bothered her beyond words. Anna obviously did not want to be found by her, and so Elsa had given up. Locking herself away and pretending the curse had never been broken. That life had returned to normal. It had been hard at first seeing as her powers were back, and things had constantly been freezing; however, over time her powers had calmed down as she had calmed down. No longer did she feel the need to cross the town line. Though her family did sometimes make her want to cross over. Outside the wind was howling fiercely, and the bitter cold was enough to make anyone else turn back around and go inside. Not Elsa. She inhaled deeply, the cold air burning her lungs and causing her to release a pleasant sigh. Yes, she loved the cold. Being in the cold and having her powers made her feel like Tora Olafsdotter, AKA Ice. One of the coolest superheroes she had ever read about, and by far her favorite. If there was one thing she did enjoy about having her powers back it was the fact that it made her a mutant like from X-Men or a Meta from the DC Universe. She could be a superhero, if she really wanted, but maybe that was just a child's fantasy?
Chuckling to herself, Elsa looked up noting she had arrived at Granny's. A smile broke out across her face as she felt her stomach rumble again. Oh yes, she definitely needed food. Speaking of food, when was the last time she ate? Elsa hardly remembered. Just as she was arriving, so was another woman. She watched her enter and followed behind her. It seemed they were heading for the same booth as well. When the woman sat down in the booth at the back, Elsa frowned. Damn, "should have been faster." She grumbled to herself. A few people glanced her way, probably amazes she was out of the house. Elsa ignored them. She stopped where the back booth and the one next to it joined. She looked at the woman, unable to identify her then slid into the other booth facing the exit. Why was the back booth always taken?

After coming into Granny’s almost every night for dinner for 28 years, her order was started by sight alone. The routine was always the same. Close up the clinic. Walk to Granny’s. Go home. Every once in awhile, especially after a hard day, she would head to The Rabbit Hole. Maybe it was the weather, but The Rabbit Hole sure seemed like the place to go after dinner tonight. While drinking certainly wasn’t a healthy pastime to take part in to stave off her loneliness, it was something, besides it was more interaction than she had in a week otherwise. Her eyes closed and she was at the dingy hole in the wall bar that was The Rabbit Hole. The stale smell of smoke and far off clack of pool balls colliding. She could imagine the liquid burning its way down already, warmth filling her belly. She signed and her eyes opened, back at Granny’s and back to reality.
Green eyes met with the young woman ho had been walking behind her before taking the booth near her own. Usually she kept to herself and did little to interact, but something inside of her kept her from ignoring her and going about her night. She took in the sight of the girl, trying to fish up a name. The girl was familiar and she knew she had seen her before, but could not remember ever having a conversation with the blonde that would have produced a name. Leaning over to bring herself closer, she spoke. “You want some company?”
The girl seemed to be alone, and she knew how lonely this town could get, even for being such a small place. Extending an invitation to join her just seemed like the nice thing to do, plus it kept her from having to eat by herself as well. Most of the townspeople left her to herself around dinner so the change in that norm was surprising to her. This was unusual for Ellie. Life in Storybrooke was solitary. She ran the clinic alone. Lived alone, Ate alone. Come to think of it, she hadn’t had company for a meal since her time in Fairytale Land. Since this curse broke, things certainly had been changing. For the better it seemed, being alone certainly was lonely. “Uh, Ellie... I’m Ellie. I don’t think we’ve properly met before.”

Elsa perked up slightly. Someone was talking to her? That did not seem right. She turned a bit to look at Ellie then pointed to herself. "Me?" She asked with a slightly raised brow. Surely she had been talking to someone else. Elsa glanced around briefly then looked back at the woman, brows furrowed a bit. Somewhat suspicious by the invite. Who wanted to spend time with her besides Olaf? The Storybrooke mutant, Arendelle's monster, ect ect. But when the woman gave an introduction, the corner of Elsa's lips tugged into a small smile. "Ellie, hm? Like the girl from Last of Us." A grin spread across her lips. Ellie was her favorite character. Badass little kid with a knife. What could possibly go wrong there? Elsa turned fulling around in the booth, sitting at a somewhat awkward angle to look Ellie face to face. "I'm Elsa." She thought about offering her hand for a handshake, but...was that really necessary? No, it was not. At least not in her opinion.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Ellie." Elsa paused for a moment, "I don't think we've met before either..." Elsa frowned. She thought she had met most of the people in Storybrooke by now, but this woman just proved her wrong. Elsa studied her for a moment. She had seen her before, but the name did not ring any bells. Then again Elsa was a shut in who barely ever acknowledged people. Unless it was Olaf or Henry, she paid little attention. Most people proved to be cruel or suspicious of her. After all she was the legendary Snow Queen. Wasn't she evil in the 'original' story? That story was almost laughable in comparison to what her life had been like. Though it did make for a good read.
Elsa adjusted herself in her seat so that she was sitting on her knees; one arm draped over the side of the booth as she spoke with Ellie. "So what do you do 'round here, Miss Ellie?~" She asked with genuine curiosity. How could she have not met her yet? It did not make sense. So maybe if she found out a bit about her she would figure out why? Or maybe Elsa was just a nosy curious person like everyone else in Storybrooke?

“Yeah, you.” Ellie laughed, well at least she picked somewhat interesting to talk to, that was good at least. Her head tilted at the mention of her name being from something. When it came to the modern amenities that the curse had provided, Ellie was somewhat hopeless. Sure, she knew how to work her computer for patient files and all the other equipment, but after that she knew very little. The simplicity of her former life, perhaps.
“The pleasure is all mine, Elsa.” A smile tugged at her lips. The name was unfamiliar to her, which wasn’t saying much. Even after 28 years she barely knew anyone who didn’t frequent her office. Being alone as she was, she did not hear much of the gossip that was common in the small Maine town. Most of what she did collect was from the owner’s of her animal patients and town gossip was not at the forefront of their minds while in her office. Besides, due to her constant interaction with animals she had the tendency to view people the way that animals seem to her (with no bad in them). Every new meeting was a fresh slate, whatever they were before had no weight.
“You know the Storybrooke Vet Clinic, near the edge of downtown? I run it, well own it. I mean I’m the vet there.” Ellie sighed inwardly, well that was certainly smooth. Why was talking to actual people so difficult. Maybe it was the years in the Enchanted Forest. The lack of practice had left her with almost no real people skills. Sure, she could talk to a dog for hours about its favorite chew toy, but trying to make small talk with its owner was another story. What more could she do?
“And, yourself? Student?” She spared a quick glance around the dinner, hoping to see one of the waitstaff milling about. It was torture sitting in the diner with the smells of dinner all around her with none in her possession.
