His loyalty to his master in unwavering and because of this he is incredibly hard to persuade in one way or another. he is very protective of his master and would go to any lengths in order to serve him to the fullest, even sacrificing his own life.
Due to his past, Iago finds it difficult to trust anyone and because of this has very little interpersonal skills. With no friends or family, Iago had long learned to become self sufficient, never relying on anyone else to complete the tasks he has been assigned. Even in combat, Iago finds his greatest weapon his his speed and subtlety, often hiding in plain sight as a bird before achieving his goal in one fell swoop.
History: Since he could remember, Iago had been an orphan, working the streets of Agrabah, pickpocketing and stealing coin from anyone he can find. The life he lived was a hard one and the consequences of such a life were severe and so he had developed a knack for staying out of sight, using the environment to conceal himself as he plundered his next meal.
For years he lived life in the shadows, careful and methodical, making sure never to get caught. Unfortunately one truth remains absolute in a thief's world, one day you will be caught. That day happened when he was twelve. He bumped into and picked the pocket of a member of the royal court. Though little did he know that his reputation of a thief had actually reached the palace and a detachment of guards were sent to free him of his hand, this man just happened to be the leader of those guards.
Though he tried to get free it was all in vain, there were too many of them. As they prepared to chop off his hand, he could only wish he was a bird and so it happened. Frightening the guards as well as the crowd that surrounded him, Iago had transformed into a parrot, the same on he had just happened to have pet earlier that day. He tried to get away but he didn't know how to fly.
As the guards attempted a finally lethal strike, time froze and a man with who everyone was familiar appeared, Jafar.
It was at that moment, his life was spared. Impressed by his ability, Iago was taken in by the wizard and trained to not only to control his power but to adapt it to situations. He learned how to take the form of a bird at will, how to simply touch a bird and then take on its form. He learned how to defend himself, how to rely on himself. He learned how to flee from his pursuers and strike down his targets. He learned how to live, all thanks to Jafar and in return only one thing was asked of him. To become the dark wizard's servant. Iago took the position without hesitation, after all it was the only way he would ever hope to repay the debt you owed the man.

Roleplay Example:
It was mid summer and the rays of the morning sun had been unfiltered by the cloudless sky. Though the sun had only been up for a few hours, it was enough to make the day and everyone who was caught outside wish for sweet relief. That was what Granny's Diner was. A relief from the sweltering heat outside where anyone can order up a cold beverage or chocolate shake and if their wallets permitted, maybe even a great big Ice Cream Sundae.
Just outside Granny's Diner was a tree, large and full of youth. The foliage of the tree didn't shroud the only branches, but hid the black beady-eyed crow that sat perched upon one of them as well. The pedestrians of Storybrooke went along their way, walking up and down the main street blissfully unaware of the creature that had been intently staring at them, making note of every movement they were making.
Since it was a weekday, most of the people of Storybrooke were at work, but for those that were not, were heading into Granny's Diner for lunch. Some were on their lunch break, some of them had the day of, some of them had nothing better to do and some just wanted a place to cool down. No matter their excuse to enter the front door of the eatery, almost everyone went to Granny's for one thing, gossip.
It was a notorious place where people would go to tell secrets they've heard and to voice their opinion on nearly every matter that befell the town. It was the perfect place for him to gather the information his master required.
The crow spread its wings and with a strong downward motion, it left the branch and gracefully glided down into some nearby bushes. The moment the bird vanished into the shrubs, a man stood up from behind them, a few black feathers falling off his shoulders. He straightened his Agrabian garbs and made sure the black scarf around his neck would not fly off with a bit of wind. Satisfied, the man walked out from the bushes and onto the street. He had gotten a few stares from the locals who had never seen him or his clothing style there before, but he simply ignored them and entered the diner.
He was there not for food or beverage, he was there for information, anything that dealt with a man either by the name of Mad Hatter or Rumpelstiltskin. With his mission in mind the man chose the center most unoccupied stool at the counter and took a seat. He kept his head down and his ears perked as he listened for any useful information. It wasn't long before he was attended to by one of the employees behind the counter. He grabbed a handful of change he had pilfered as a crow and laid it upon the counter in hopes it would be enough.
With a hushed voice, so as to not draw attention to himself, he placed his order. "A glass of cold milk please."
