Well, so much for getting up early. Phillip had woken up in a cold sweat, nightmares haunting him the whole night. His body felt drained and he had no desire to leave his make shift bed to train. The six....or seven pints he had consumed the night before also didn't help. Besides, training alone would be no fun at all. He sighed, rubbing his eyes and thinking of his good friend Mulan. Perhaps if he found Aurora, he'd find her, or vice versa. She was the perfect partner to train with; strong, smart and quick on her feet. On top of that he missed her friendship, she was one of the few people he had truely opened up to.
Phillip had to drag himself out of bed, taking a 'shower' (which he still found strange), and changing into the clothes he had bought brand new for himself. He was more comfortable in these than the "jeans and t-shirt" style that seemed to be popular in this region. He wore a loose pair of black pants, and a long sleeved brown shirt that had three buttons near the neck. The shoes were simple black leather, nothing too flashy. Why a man would ever wear bright green or orange was beyond him.
He hoped to run into Neal or Graham in town, but didn't see them as he trolled the streets. He almost grimaced at the sight of Cady's Bar, his head pounding a bit at the thought of another pint. Shaking his head, he walked past quickly, reminding himself to go say hello to Cady later on when he felt less queasy.
A few people smiled at him as he walked past and he politely nodded his head in acknowledgement. Graham had explained to him that many of these people use to belong in the Enchanted Forest, as well as other worlds. This explained why many people looked familiar. "Belle might also be here!" He softly spoke to himself, smiling slightly. Hope filled his heart for the first time in weeks.
Slowing down his pace, he began to look at every face and into every shop, hoping to catch sight of Aurora, Mulan or Belle. As he approached one window, his eyes landed on flashy jewels of all colors. He almost looked away, but his attention was drawn to a certain necklace, one that looked oddly familiar. At least the design of it did. Immediately he felt drawn to the shop and pushed the door open. A small bell rang above his head to indicate that someone had entered the store.
He scanned the area with his dark brown eyes, the gold flecks in them flashing excitedly. "Hello?" His voice carried throughout the store; he was used to commanding attention with his words. No one was in sight so he called out again. "Anyone here?" It seemed like a stupid question, who would ever leave a store full of jewels unattended?

There was no better feeling than of the cool surface of a jewel in one’s hand. Madeline sat at her vanity, gazing at the large stone that rested on the smooth skin of her chest. It was too gaudy to really be worn when one would be seen, but it would have been a shame to break up the large jewel. Madeline brushed her hands down her neck and let her fingers curl around the jewel, a slow smile appearing on her face. It would be one jewel, like the Devil’s Eye, she would never get rid of. Certainly no one could pull it off as she could, even in the privacy of her own boudoir. Plus she wasn’t likely to find many more like this. It was special. With a light sigh, Madeline reached around to unlock the clasp of the necklace, letting the heavy jewelry fall into her hand. It matched her eyes, dark, deep blue. There were many stories behind it which made it seem as if it matched her more than skin deep, something dark about it. That wasn’t unusual, considering how Madeline sought out most of the jewels she used. It wasn’t as easy here, as Storybrooke wasn’t as vast as the Enchanted Forest and not as well endowed with jewels and precious metals, but Madeline had enough in stock to make what she wanted for the most part. It wasn’t as if jewels were high on many’s priority list. Madeline wasn’t as bothered by the second curse as many others seemed to be. She had the two most important things to her, the Devil’s Eye and her husband. Her youth and her love. Her beauty and her heart. The light chime of the entrance bell caught her attention and she paused for a moment to see if it was simply her husband returning, but instead she heard a stranger call out. One might think it was foolish for her to leave the store front with the merchandise that lined the counters, but there was one thing Madeline was certain of. A person should never steal from a dragon and if someone tried it, they would shortly be sorry. Rising smoothly from her chair, she let to attend to the customer. She entered the room, silent as a snake, coming in from behind the gentleman and observing him for a short moment before she spoke. “Hello, darling,” she said in her silky smooth voice. Madeline looked much younger than she actually was but it could be said the way she spoke gave away that her appearance was in some way a lie. Her eyes raked over the young lad with a critical eye. She knew a prince when she saw one. Nearly everyone had that air of entitlement, as if they were more deserving simply because they were royalty. Madeline wouldn’t be one to dispel him of that idea because this is the type of person she catered to and she knew how to cater very well. “Your Highness.” She did not curtsy but gave him a nod to show her reverence, an act as it was. “Welcome to my shop. How may I be of service to you today? Do you have a sweetheart that you wish to give a gift? Tell me all about her and I can find the perfect thing.” Prince Phillipoutfit here

Phillip quickly turned around as he heard a female's voice behind him. The sound of it was thick and sweet, like syrup. After all she was a salesperson, and if Phillip knew one thing it was that anyone trying to sell something was likely to be a fake. When his eyes fell on Madeline, her looks did not match her voice. She was quite young and lovely, but her voice held years of wisdom and experience. He didn't question her recognition of him being a Prince, he assumed she had much experience working with people of his class. "Good morning my lady." Raising his left eyebrow, he nodded back. Slowly he approached her, making a slow circle around her to one of the jewelry counters. "Forgive me if this sounds strange, but I believe I know of your work. In the Enchanted Forest?" His eyes scanned the glimmering jewels of all shapes and sizes that lay under the display glass. Memories flooded his thoughts... an evening that felt as like it was almost yesterday. Phillip had asked Aurora to meet him secretly in the forest at night. His father was not pleased with the idea of him wanting to marry a commoner and he had learned to come up with creative ways to see her. This was before they realized that Aurora was actually Aurora and also his betrothed. He waited for her in the dark cover of the night, nervously clasping something in his hand. When she approached he felt as if he was frozen in time and words failed him completely. His love smiled, and ran up to him breathlessly. After an embrace, he lifted up the item in his hand so she could see it in the moonlight peeking through the trees. The necklace sparkled; an opalescent heart was the centerpiece. The piece was just like her, elegant, fierce and simply beautiful. Never had Phillip seen a smile so wide, so happy…. As quickly as the memory came to him, it faded, and he had to shake his head slightly to snap out of it. He desperately hoped these strange feelings that had been haunting him would go away sooner rather than later. But he did suppose he was technically dead for a long period of time, had his soul taken away from his body and was sent to another dimension. Could do a number on a guy really. Clearing his throat he turned to look at Madeline. “Your pieces are very lovely, as you are you my lady. I am Prince Phillip, perhaps you’ve heard of me?” He laid on the charm. He knew he recognized her work, though he had never caught her name. He avoided her question, for now. Madeline Medina/ Madame Medusa

Madeline stayed in place as he circled around her, only tilting her head slightly so could still see him out of the corner of her eye. She wasn’t at all intimidated by him, particularly not here where he had no power of armies. Even back in the Enchanted Forest, Madeline had been in many close calls, but had come out mostly unscathed. She wasn’t known as a troublemaker in the Enchanted Forest, since it had been so many years since she had actually had trouble there, and there were few, if any, that would be alive to remember those times. Madeline dropped her gaze from him, turning it back forward, so he was at her back now, pausing for a moment before she smoothly turned completely around and faced him, her own gaze appraising him. He didn’t appear to be anything special, but Madeline fought against the assumption because she knew she might not seem that way either, for mere appearance, though the aura about her stated more. As the prince approached one of the glass counters, Madeline slowly approached to stand beside him. She smiled in a way that didn’t reach her eyes. “That’s not as strange as you might think. I do believe there are not many jewelers who have the output that I do, when it comes to quality.” There was a simplicity to her words, as if it was a fact. Indeed, Madeline didn’t know of any jewelers other than herself that serviced such a wide range of people in the kingdoms. “I do hail from the Enchanted Forest and have outfitted many across the realm. She peered into the glass case with fondness, the way a parent might gaze at their child. In some ways, perhaps, it was true enough. They were her creations. It had taken a lot of will power and strength for her to curb the desires she had to horde the jewels. As a dragon, that had been her sole goal, to hoard as much treasure as she could find. As a human, living in the world once more, it wasn’t particularly sensible to have stores of jewels. Her husband had convinced her of this, though it had taken some time. There were still some jewels and pieces she could never get rid of. The Devil’s Eye being the most obvious. That one she hardly let off her person; it was too important. “Yes. I’m afraid people have come to know me as Madame Medusa,” she said, smiling as if the moniker was amusing. “It’s a dark name, but beauty can come from darkness,” she said, opening one of the cases to pull out a piece with dark jewels in it, contrasted by strings of pearls. She supposed the phrase could fit her well, even if she didn’t think of herself as so obviously dark as a dark jewel. “Perhaps because one of my pieces could stop one dead in their tracks.” Madeline’s intent gaze fell upon him as he seemed to get lost, even for a moment, in a thought or a memory. She had been alive long enough to recognize it. There was a curiosity in her stare, part of her wishing she could see the thought, but her kind of magic didn’t work that way. “Of course I’m familiar with you, Your Highness.” It was important for her work to know who the most likely clients in the realm were. “If you are Prince Phillip, then your sweetheart must be lovely young Aurora.” Though she was cold and some might say evil, Madeline knew more about love than most. She had been with her husband for hundreds of years and they had remained true to each other all that time. She couldn’t help but wonder if all these mortals would last that long. She had seen how many relationships failed and partners strayed from a distance. She didn’t care enough to hope for a romance to flourish, all she needed was that initial burst and men were very interested in her pieces to keep that love. “I have not had the opportunity to meet her, but have heard much about her beauty and kind spirit.” www.illusionjewels.com/store/ProdImages/1432nksap.jpg(So, after talking with some of the people on the site, it was pointed out that, those left behind in the EF were stuck in time, as the people in SB were, so she would have been in the EF when he was alive after all.) Phillip raised an eyebrow as she introduced herself. He had heard the name around The Enchanted Forest, in whispers and in stories. He never realized the beautiful necklace he had given Aurora as a sign of his love and dedication had come from someone surrounded by a veil of darkness. As she pulled out the necklace, his eyes fell upon it. Though he could find beauty in many things, he found this piece to large and overpowering. He supposed many women would swoon and admire such pieces, but he knew his own Princess had no interest in such gaudy fair. He wondered if this woman enchanted her jewelry…. And was wondering if he should even consider a purchase from her for his fair lady. Her comments about darkness intrigued him. His heart had been through much turmoil, and through dark times he had seen glimpses of light. During one of the hardest times in his life, a beacon of hope had saved him, Belle. She had been beautiful, a friend beyond compare. Perhaps this is what Madame Medusa spoke of. As he glanced over at her looking at the necklace, he noticed something soft in her eyes that he didn’t expect. “Though, beauty can be dangerous in and of itself.” He added. As she addressed his him in the polite mannerisms, he simply smiled. He only cared for use of his title when he needed it, to show power or dominance. Not that his intention was either of these currently, but he was aware when it came to talk of jewels, it eased the owner’s minds when they knew they were not dealing with a peasant. Though here, in this Storybrooke, he wasn’t sure of any of their customs. Unaware to Phillip, his eyes lit up briefly at the mention of Aurora. Simply hearing her name brought on waves of memories; how she looked when she concentrated, the smell of her hair (roses) and the soft touch of her hand. As soon as the light appeared, it dimmed as Madame Medusa commented on Aurora’s character. Doubts filled his mind, he knew nothing of her whereabouts or when he would see her again. A sharp pain pierced his heart, causing him to wince and lean on the counter for support. “Yes, Aurora is mine.” He said in a low tone, his voice catching slightly. “Her radiance puts the sun to shame…” Now he whispered; the feelings he had seemed to bubble up and made it hard for any words to come. As each day passed he wondered if he was meant to be happy with Aurora, or if the gods would always find a way to keep them apart. Trying to gather himself, he clenched his fists and looked away from Madame Medusa. Phillip had been strong for a large part of his life. As of late, that was not the case. He hated showing weakness, especially in front of questionable company. This woman appeared to be kind enough, civil at least, but one with such a dark past does not change so easily. Breathing deeply, he glanced out the window of the shop, slight embarrassed and unsure of what else to say at the moment. Madeline Medina/ Madame Medusa

Madeline laughed in gentle, rolling peals when his brow quirked at her name. “If it frightens you, Your Highness, please call me Madeline or Lady Madeline, if you are true to the old customs of our world. I assure you it won’t offend.” Truly there weren’t many who called her Madame Medusa, particularly not to her face, but she was quite aware of how the name started and she enjoyed the linger of fear and darkness that it was associated with. Even if she blamed the name on her jewelry, it was how she collected the jewels that had earned her that nickname. Child labor, hard labor in the mines. The few that managed to escape with their lives had started the name and coupled with her reputation among her clients and her overall demeanor, it had come to be a well known name. Madeline had adopted it, perhaps confirming some suspicions, though there was still no evidence of wrongdoing on her part. Not that many had actually attempted to delve into the workings of her business. “Perhaps being associated with that…monster of legends should be insulting or at least worrying, but as a businesswoman, I have to appreciate the recognition it provides.” The piece she showed him was not to his taste; she could see that in his features as muted as the expresssions were. It did not offend her, as she knew there were many different tastes and she was accommodating to all of them. Madeline herself greatly enjoyed the more extravagant pieces, but she knew they were not for all occasions and certainly in Storybrooke, the pieces were not as fitting for most occasions. “That’s quite true, I believe, and it’s often hard to tell if the beauty will lift you or be the cause of your downfall,” she said with shuttered eyes. “That is very common in our land, I believe. One must never presume to know what’s in another’s heart or soul, especially not on sight alone or even of rumor. That should be a lesson we learned with Snow White.” Certainly, Regina had done her best to slander the princess’s name and it had worked in many parts of the land, though the more the Evil Queen tried the harder it became for people to believe in Snow White’s evil. Madeline couldn’t deny true love. She had seen its magic first hand. Even if the love of most didn’t outlast her and James’ love, she still recognized it and the powerful hold it could have over the couples. The look on Madeline’s face showed some amusement at the love he seemed to have for her, but she also noticed the traces of sadness and longing in his expression and voice. Storybrooke had become a confusing place in the years since the Evil Queen cast her curse. When it was broken many sought out their loved ones, some of who were found in Storybrooke and some who weren’t, for whatever reason. When the second curse occurred, more people were drawn into Storybrooke, which made the confusion and separation worse. “Has she been lost to you in the madness?” She looked down at the ring on her own finger. “During the first curse my husband was lost to me, though I didn’t know it at the time, since we didn’t remember ourselves, but even after he was lost to be for a time.” Her features softened somewhat as she spoke. “Separation from the person you love is the cruelest fate there is.” In the hundreds of years that she had been with James, they had certainly spent years apart, but with the knowledge of where the other was and that they could easily return to each other. “True love is a powerful magic.” She gazed over him for a moment, her expression unreadable. “She will be returned to you.” Madeline let out a breath as if expelling emotion and her features went nearly blank again, touched only by a tiny quirk of a smile. “You will want something that will show your love but not draw from her own beauty, I think,” she said. “I have some pieces that might work, but I have an idea in mind for a custom piece.” She slinked away from him to find a sketch pad and a pencil, before returning and setting it in front of her. With quick strokes of her hand, she did a light sketch of a piece. “I believe this could be simple enough to work in this land, for however we might reside here, as well as our own land. Would it not be suiting for your sweetheart?” Prince Phillip

Phillip was beginning to like this Madame Medusa, despite the dark cloud over her past. He was a bit relieved when she offered him her real name, Madeline. The sound of it seemed lighter, making him a bit more comfortable in her presence. “I think I shall do that Lady Madeline.” Despite the new setting, Phillip didn’t think he’d ever lose the manners that were drilled into his brain. His father would never allow it, especially when it came to a lady. As if she had read his mind, she hit his heart strings with a powerful punch. Her words drifted through his mind…. ’… or be the cause of your downfall’[/b]. For Aurora he had fallen into the deepest pits of darkness; encounters with death himself. Though he was not trying to be rude, he lost most of what she said right after that. His mind was too busy trying to fight the doubt. Not only had he not found Aurora in this world, in their old life he had faced darkness and death simply to be with her. He hated these thoughts; they poisoned his mind and his heart, making him feel sick. Taking a deep breath he turned back to her, his eyes falling upon her face. “She has been. I have not seen her here yet and am afraid of what may have happened.” Her features were softer as she spoke of her husband being separated from her. It should make him feel better, that he was not the only one who had gone through this sort of tragedy, but it didn’t. “Oh how I hope you are right Lady.” His voice was gruff from trying to hold back the flood of emotions. A stop into Cady’s Bar after this venture sounded quite appealing to him. He supposed almost everything would cause him to feel this way if he didn’t shape up. Life was full of change, good or bad, and simply not accepting it would not help matters. Until they were reunited he must keep his head up. And if the opposite were to occur he would be prepared for that as well. Thankful for the distraction, he turned his attention to the drawing she produced. For now, he let his mind settle on this fate; that the two of them would return to one another alive and well. In his case, mostly well with a slightly broken soul. His eyes watched her pencil as she quickly produced a sketch of a simple yet beautiful necklace. Nodding, he picked up the paper and held it to the light. “I would not be able to pay you, at least not in gold. Not here at least, I’m guessing my body which looked dead to any passerby got robbed.” This thought made a small laugh bubble up, followed by a much deeper and heartier one. Phillip wasn’t quite sure what he found to be this hilarious, but he was tickled. It was ludicrous to think of money at a time like this. “Forgive me; floating around the astral plain really knocks a few things out of place up here.” He rapped a fist on his head, tossing her a rather goofy smile. The conversation up until now had been rather depressing, to say the least, and he assumed a good laugh was in order even if it was simply because Lady Madeline was laughing at his stupidity. The saleswoman in her was pushing the jewels, but he could see glimpses of caring moments in which she truly wished to help. Perhaps he could convince her that he could work for the piece, or trade some sort of favor. Just the idea of possessing a gift for his love would strengthen his hope in finding Aurora.
