Image/Face claim: Amy Acker
Name: Astrid/Nova
Gender: Female
Age: Appears to be around 30
Occupation: Nun/Fairy godmother-in-training
Family: Fairies are her family.
Strengths: Astrid's strength lies in her ability dream and believe that anything is possible.
Weaknesses: Her strength is also her weakness, well, that on top of her clumsiness. Her dreamer ways often leads her down the road towards let down and disappointment. The idea that reality and dreams cannot co-exist in the same realm has yet come to light for Astrid despite the fact that none of her dreams have been reached. Leroy is her weakness as well.
Quote: You can do anything, as long as you can dream it
Personality:
Kind/Helpful: Who is Astrid? Well, for starters she is one of the nicest people you will meet perhaps save for Snow White. She is a kind soul who couldn't hurt a fly even if her life depended on it, and being a firm believer of if you don't have anything good to say don't say anything at all, this nun-fairy avoids words of a hurtful nature. Astrid avoids conversations that involve words that are unkind because she wouldn't want such things said about her, even though she knows that her sisters whisper about her innate ability to mess things up.
Dreamer/Optimistic: Before the curse, Astrid or otherwise known as Nova was quite the dreamer, and boy did she dream big. Although, they seemed to change from time to time. First, she wished nothing more than to become a fairy godmother, and had hoped that it would be accomplished soon after her training begun, but not long after she started on the path of achieving her dream, Nova, for just a fleeting moment, she strayed from her dream for another. With so many wonders in the world, it was hard to stick with just one dream. Astrid is very much the same way. Her dreaming ways is fueled by her optimism. Always with the glass half full rather than half empty, she can see the good and potential in a situation where many others do not. She saw it in Dreamy and herself back when they were going to run off and explore the world. Astrid will remain positive and hopeful until all hope is lost.
Flighty/Clumsily: Graceful Astrid is not. A perpetual screw up is a better way to put it. She tries her hardest in everything she does, but something tends to go wrong despite her best efforts. Then whenever something does go wrong she works herself into panic and all hope of is lost. She volunteers for just about everything, but always seems to get the easiest of tasks which she still somehow messes up like when she wasted a month’s rent on helium. She knows her sisters avoid asking for her help, which makes her sad, but she doesn’t hold it against them; Astrid can barely hang a banner without something going terribly wrong. It doesn’t help that she isn’t always focused on the task at hand.
Excitable/Easily Impressed: An energetic being, Nova is hi strung, jumpy and giggly. Astrid is a little calmer, but still possesses the same traits. It is not hard to get her worked up a grand idea will make her squeal in delight as will a good book. A jammed lever will drive her to a panic that much looks like a frantic dance on her tip toes. Astrid is impressed as easily as she is excitable, but with all the wonders in the world who can blame her. A prime example was the day that Leroy managed to sell all the candles as promised. He was her hero.
Sets herself up for let downs: Being the dreamer that she is, Astrid tends to set high expectations high, and usually experiences a hard let down. Her over-sized heart gets crushed easily, and once wounded it takes a while for it heal. It may seem silly that she allows herself to get disappointed so easily, but that's Astrid. She always forgives those who break her heart regardless if they ask for it or not, but the pain and disappointment takes some time to fade from memory. No matter how sad she is Astrid will try her hardest to continue smiling.
History:
Before the curse ~ Nova Link
Nova is a fairy whose greatest wish is to become a fairy godmother. She runs an errand for the Blue Fairy, carrying a large bag of fairy dust, and they meet in the clouds. The Blue Fairy warns her to be careful, as fairy dust is part of the magic that runs the world, and thus a year's supply of it is very precious. Though her dream is to become a fairy godmother in the succeeding year, the Blue Fairy wants her to start collecting fairy dust on her own starting next year. Nova is disappointed, but follows orders. That subsequent year, she flies into a mine to turn on a switch and fill her bag with fairy dust. She works herself into a panic when the machine switch jams until a dwarf named Dreamy comes to her aide. She thanks him for his help, but then her bag of fairy dust is scooped up by the assembly line heading for the furnace. Dreamy manages to save the bag in time. Incredibly grateful, Nova calls him her hero. They have a good rapport together, so Nova subtly invites him to accompany her to Firefly Hill that night. However, Dreamy does not understand the hint, and simply wishes her a good time. Nova leaves, albeit a little disheartened.
That night, she goes to Firefly Hill hoping Dreamy will show up as well, which he does. The two proceed to have a discussion about seeing the world. Suddenly, the fireflies light up and she becomes so excited at the sight of them that she kisses him. They fall in love, and agree to meet the next night after Nova has delivered the fairy dust and then sail away together to travel the world. The night they are set to leave, Nova gives Dreamy a spyglass to look at the sailing ship she procured for them to travel the world. Sadly, Dreamy states that they cannot be together. Nova quickly figures out that he spoke to the Blue Fairy and wants to know what she said to him, but Dreamy only replies that they need to stick with their own kind. Nova sobs in tears as he leaves her.
During the curse ~ Astrid Link
During Storybrooke's annual Miner's Day festival, Astrid is one of the nuns helping to set up light decorations around town. Traditionally, the nuns make candles to sell on Miner's Day. As Leroy walks past, she accidentally spills some glitter on him. Quickly, she gets off the ladder and apologizes for the mess. Leroy is undeterred and offers to help her with the lights. He discovers she is setting them up incorrectly, and fixes it. Astrid thanks him for his efforts, and they get to know each other. She finds out he is a janitor, and learns his actual desire is to sail the world on his boat. Astrid urges anything is possible as long as he can dream it up.
Later, Leroy goes in to sign up in volunteering to help sell candles for Miner's Day. The head of the nuns, Mother Superior, put Astrid in charge of using the appropriate amount of money to buy helium, but instead she ends up spending the entire budget; including their monthly rent to their landlord, Mr. Gold. Shocked, Mother Superior demands she fix her mistake as soon as possible. In a depressed stupor, Astrid is approached by Leroy, who promises to help her sell out all the candles to get back the rent she owes.
During the first day of the festival, Leroy and Mary Margaret set up their tent in town to attract townspeople into buying candles, but no one pays them any attention. Thus, they go door-to-door to sell them, but find themselves rejected repeatedly. Mary Margaret pushes Leroy to tell Astrid the truth about their candle selling failure, but he doesn't want to disappoint her, and instead he says they sold out and need her to make more candles. Ecstatic, Astrid warmly embraces him.
Leroy ends up hiding the unsold candles by the dock near his anchored boat. He resorts to trying to barter with Mr. Gold in buying his old boat for five hundred dollars—the exact amount of rent the nuns need. Mr. Gold refuses Leroy's price and also won't allow a month's rent to be excused as he is looking forward to kicking out the nuns. Astrid comes by to bring him food as thanks, but discovers the candles underneath the tarp.
Disappointed that Leroy lied, she leaves wordlessly. The second night of the festival, Leroy causes a blackout in town; thus making the townspeople reliant on buying candles as light sources. After he and Mary Margaret sell out all their candles, Leroy goes to Astrid personally and gives her the five thousand dollars, which renews her trust and admiration in him. He offers her to be the first passenger on his boat when it's fixed up enough to use, and Astrid happily accepts.
After the curse
Since her memories of Nova has been returned to her, Astrid has been a bit confused. She wants to stay with the convent and hopefully one day return to her fairy duties, but a part of her also wants to go on adventures. Then there is Leroy. One would think that after a 28 year curse the pain of heartbreak wouldn’t feel like a fresh wound, but it does. That night that he crushed her dreams of them together being a part of the world is still very clear, and she tries not to show it, but it does make her sad. The one thing Astrid is sure of is at the moment she is enjoying being part of the world instead of just flying over it. It has been quite an adventure so far. For the moment, she is happy doing what she does best helping out wherever she can (and screwing up on the process), but Astrid silently hopes that Leroy will remember that he told her that she could be his first passenger on his boat. She surely love that. She has always dreamed about rising on a boat and sailing the open waters instead of flying over it.
Likes: Pie, Adventure (more so the idea of it), Stories, Helping people, Leroy/Dreamy (Even if he did break her heart), Boats
Dislikes: Lying, Rude people, Messing up, Alcohol, Dark magic
Roleplay Example: From an old site where I played Rhea, a Greek titaness
"I shall remember that for next time." She tried to smile, but with her nerves running wild she ended up chewing on her bottom lip instead. Yeah, she still felt like an idiot for not realizing something so basic, but at least the man didn't make it worse. In reality, their bodies weren't very much different. Hers just has a divine addition to it. It still bleeds. It still feels pain. So it should have been something she should have remembered to do.
Surprise took over her features as the man let out a laugh. She was not use to such behavior and to be honest, it was a bit befuddling, and it nearly cause the titaness to stop in her tracks. "It does not bring me any peace, to be honest." It was truth. Her brows furrowed as she followed the rebel to where they would place themselves to train, and chewed on his words for but a moment before speaking again. “Tell me then, is there anyone you place your faith in?" Perhaps it was a blunt question, and one that was she had no business asking, but everyone has to have faith. Belief in something; in someone, right? She once believed in her husband, but now believes in her son. She placed her faith in her son and even on the occasion prayed to her mother to watch over him. It was what kept her going. Curiosity from an aching heart drove her to ask. Unlike most immortals, Rhea did not fault the man because he did not believe in them. It saddened her to see a mortal driven away from gods of any pantheon. Of course, there used to be a day where hearing this would have angered her, but things change. Mortals change as well as immortal.
She nodded her head that she understand as he explained what would happen. Her attention was placed upon the rebel wholly as he demonstrated what she were to do. She focused harder than she has in a long, long time. It is not very often she assumes the role of student. She copied the motion a few times, and it seemed easy enough. Almost familiar to be honest. It reminded her of swatting away a babe's hand when one made a grab for her face or hair. And then he raised his fists. Oh. Already? It was all very different when fists were raised. She swallowed hard readying her body. Block. Side of arm. Swipe it to the side. She went over the motions quickly in her head. She was ready. She was ready to learn. She was ready to try to learn. At least she thought she was.
Thankfully, he slowed the motion down, but still it did not change the fact that her heart near leapt out of her chest when the first came towards and her face cringed slightly as she moved to block it with the part of the arm he told her to use. Her heart continued to race after she managed to block the attack. Ok, maybe swatting babes' hands away wasn't so similar. This wasn't so nerve racking for starters.
"Did I do that correctly?"
