Two weeks had passed since Killian first arrived in New York. The crossing from the Enchanted Forest hadn't been easy. There was something about this world that made realm travel difficult even for those who knew what they were doing, but he made it, and now that he was there, he was having one hell of a time accomplishing what he set out to do. Emma needed to make it back to her family and to remember what she had forgotten, but instead of listening to him, she'd chosen to block him at every turn. It was just like her to be so stubborn, but he didn’t have time to waste on gaining her trust slowly. He needed a new plan.
Hook had gone to a park near Emma's apartment complex. With Emma at work for the day, he had time to kill and he would use it to plot his next move. He'd spent long enough in Emma's world, a place devoid of magic, to understand why she struggled to believe the story he had to tell, but how to make it more believable for her? The answer occurred to him as her twelve year old son Henry came walking through the park.
Killian and Henry had never had much time to speak one on one, which made his knowledge of the boy almost purely from secondhand sources. He knew about Henry's storybook and about how he'd been the catalyst for Emma becoming Storybrooke's savior, all because of his belief in those stories. If anybody could convince Emma now, it would be Henry, if he could get the boy to listen to him. When Henry sat down on a park bench, Killian approached and sat down with him. "Hello lad, been a while since I saw you last. You won't remember, but I’m a friend of your mother's. How is Emma these days?" She seemed well from the brief moments of contact he had with her. He wanted to know if she was happy in her new life, though if she was, he might regret waking her up from the dream.

Henry had just been to school, like he normally did, mum had found him the best school ever, there was plenty to do, okay there was a few problems, but well Henry was pretty sure all schools had a few problems like the bullies, it would be odd if they did not he knew that. The bullies though had left him widely alone, however he had stood up for this one kid that they were hulling today and the two had become fast friends, obviously he had but himself in the bullies firing line, but Henry didn't care he could deal with them, he had dealt with worse. Wait what? No I haven't dealt with something worse than that, why did I think that, Henry frowned to himself, unsure of where the thought had come from but he was sure it was nothing. Henry's teacher's were amazing and very helpful, even more so if he wasn't doing good on a subject, they were always there to help and so was his mum, when she wasn't working she would help him with his homework. Then he could play video games or read as long as he had done his homework At the moment he was on his way through the park that he always went to whenever he had finished school, he always went the park first to spend some time, his mum didn't mind, she wouldn't be home yet so it was always best to just have some time to himself outside first. Maybe spend some time with his friends, she said it was okay as long as he didn't spend too much time out and had his phone so he didn't worry her. Henry went to sit down on a park bench for a moment just sit and think to himself about what he was going to do on one of his school projects he had been given. When the man sat down next to him he frowned up at him, before looking around, he had seen this man around Emma the other day and well he wasn't sure if he should be talking to him, strangers and all that, however he was in a crowded area and there was even cops around, so he would be safe enough. The man was wearing strange clothes almost like someone who was a pirate. "Are you in fancy dress?" He asked him sure he was, that he was going to a party or something similar. Henry groaned slightly when he said , he remembered him, and though to himself that he was going to say something about him as a baby. " Your not one of those friends that knew me, when I was a baby are you? Mum's friends always embarrass me with those stories." At least that's what his memories told him, Henry was not sure why he was talking to a stranger, but it felt right like he knew that man, but he had never met him before, he just put it down to the fact he was not brought up to be rude. "Did you and mum have an argument and that's why I've never seen you, she didn't seem to want to talk to you." He asked, that could be the reason why his mum never talked about this friend of hers that looked like he was a pirate or something. Something inside Henry was telling him to trust this man, that he was a friend yet at the same time he had other thoughts in his head screaming at him tog et away that he wasn't to be trusted, that he was a stranger. "Mum's great she's got an awesome job, and we always spend time together, the other day she got me a really cool video game," he started telling him before frowning at his face, Henry believed this man was not a threat to him, so he just talked. He sat forward a bit as if to share a secret. "She doesn't think I know but I followed her the other night, and she dating someone, he seems nice."Killian Jones

What was it with this world’s aversion to his manner of dress? Everywhere he went, someone was bound to make a comment on his clothing, or even more likely, his hook. Killian took to wearing a false hand just to avoid suspicion, but the stares still followed him. It was different in Storybrooke, he remembered. He brushed the thought aside as he regarded Henry. “No, lad, where I come from, this would not be far out of the norm.”
He chuckled and shook his head. “I’m not here to embarrass you. No, your second guess is closer to the truth. Your mother and I have had our differences and haven’t spoken in a while. I aim to fix that. She’s stubborn, your mum, as I think you know.” He shrugged and let his arm rest over the back of the seat. “But she’ll come around.” He sounded more confident than he felt, but he still didn’t believe he would really fail in his task. Emma may not want to hear him and that would be a challenge, but he’d faced worse odds in his life.
Henry was happy with his new life and from the sound of things, Emma was happy with it too. It was blessed, nearly worry free, and far away from the troubles that plagued the rest of the family. Waking the pair of them up to their true reality could be considered a cruelty. Hook wasn’t going to back down. He knew what Emma would want were she in her right mind. “That’s refreshing news, Henry. Your mother deserves that happiness. As do you.” He raised an eyebrow as the boy leaned in to tell him a secret of Emma’s love life and knew he shouldn’t be surprised to find that she was dating again. Emma usually had several fellows chasing her at once. “Aye, a new beau. A beautiful woman like her shouldn’t be alone for long.”
He shook his head to put those thoughts out of his mind. Time to get back to the true purpose of this conversation. “Enough about that. Tell me, Henry, how long have you been living in New York? Where were you staying before you came to be here?”
