Here at OUAD we do not have a word count. I wrote this as a Roleplay guide for RPD-G. There are many guides there. I am writing up many more and they are coming here to OUAD. I want to help our members so they are able to rp more effectively.
1. Now, we've all been through this. Whether we are new to roleplaying, we have people who we rp with that are not necessarily up to snuff. In fact there are some people that I've rp'd with that still after 6 years only rp two sentence paragraphs and then they are done.
Here is an example of a short sentence:
The day was beautiful.
This may be acceptable for some, yes. But let's look at some of those sites that we have word counts. Some are let's say 450/500. You've gotten yourself up to 400/450. Let's take a look at "the day."
As she stepped out the door, she felt the breeze lift her fine flaxen hair. Nary a cloud in the sky as the sun rose from the East to shine upon her face, lighting up her brilliant blue eyes.
As you can see. From that description alone I've added 35 words. Now if you can do this with every sentence you can meet or exceed every word count. Or just give yourself a pat on the back seeing that you've made a wonderful accomplishment. It aids in improving your writing skills.
Or even perhaps ever other sentence/every third... You can build yourself up to posts that if you were not proud of before, hopefully this will help you. I know that this has helped me.
It's all about Detail, Detail, Detail.
The scents of the grass, the air, the visual things they see. Use the details of what's in those items. Whether you believe it or not, people do love to read about those little things.
2. Don't use the same words over and over. i.e. he, she, it, their proper name, etc.
Use the description of their character.
---The flaxen haired woman stepped through the open doorway (Description of the character herself)
Or, their job title, their house title. i.e. husband wife, first born, etc. Whatever describes them best. i.e.
--The money the nanny earned was meager compared to that of her husband
3. Keep a Thesaurus available. Generally everyone uses a computer nowadays, so keep a tab open with the book source open. If you are looking for a different word to use for your sentence so you are not using the same one every time, use the Thesaurus.
4. Another thing that I tend to do is when I am watching T.V. shows is if they use a word that I know I have not used in a long time or would go well in a sentence that I'll be writing soon, I write it down in Word so I can use it for later. It's me basically building my own Thesaurus.
